The Benefits of the Using the Victorian Decorating Style
Ever since the Victorian decorating style has been introduced in the west, it has become one of the popular styles. This style of decorating was named so because this can be traced to Queen Victoria's rule which was in 1837 to 1901. Since this period had a lot of craftsmanship and ingenuity, expect that the Victorian décor can use these positive traits in the decoration process. The Victorian style of decorating continue to be popular today because its main characteristics have been maintained even though a lot of changes have been made in the past few years.
An example of decorating in Victorian style is to incorporate old decors and place it in modern homes. The decors used should be authentic Victorian pieces because there are many decors out there that is not original. Your house will stand out after decorating it with Victorian style especially if the embellishments and designs can be seen.
One of the most important features of Victorian decorating is wall coverings. If you prefer the vintage look, use any dark colors as wallpapers for your wall, but you can also use whatever you prefer and the style that you want. You can still portray the Victorian style even though you don't get to design the wallpaper by placing old pictures in the wall.
Decorating the floor in Victorian style can be a little tricky because the floor takes up most of the space in the house you are decorating. You could solve this problem by placing authentic or replicated Victorian-inspired rugs, or go all out and change the flooring altogether.
Decorating your windows Victorian-style should be as elaborate as how the people dress during that era. Victorian curtains are characterized by the use of drapes but can also use common fabrics and hues that can complement the enter design of the house.
Light fixtures should include oil lamps and lamp shades with intricate designs. Tiffany lamps are a great addition to your Victorian-styled home, specifically on sofa end tables or bedroom night stands because of the elegance that stained glass lamps bring. To complete the Victorian style, you have to place a chandelier on your dining table as well as the placement of sconces in various parts of the house.
Genuine Victorian décor and furniture do not necessarily have to be purchased. If you want to have the same look as the original Victorian style, invest in reproductions because it will have the same looks as the original. Old furniture should be kept because the antique cabinet will really show how long it has been in the room while at the same time adding a look that can't be found in reproductions. Just make sure that the antiques are still in excellent condition.
